What happens when you see companies doing something that is not expected by the users? A user who always uses google as his homepage was very suprised to see google putting a advertise of a Verizon Driod phone in their homepage. Google typically are innocuous about advertising their product. However, putting out an advertise in the homepage seems very sleazy from the company like google.
We know all companies have advertisements in thier home pages. It is normal but this is one of the rare moments that google has been found to be doing. It is probably a new marketing strategy from google. As time passes by, google might continue to this and it may not strike as sleazy anymore.

It is a shocker to see an ad on Google's homepage because they usually do not have anything but the search bar. But Google has finally come around and realized that even their blank homepage needs some money making capabilities. Users will be surprised to see ads at first, but will eventually get used to seeing them on Google's homepage just as they are used to seeing them everywhere else on the web.
ReplyDeleteGoogle isn't a homepage, it's a search engine. Such a good one that millions of users set it as their homepage. So it is a brilliant business move to place ads on google.com, ads certain to generate high click-through rates.
ReplyDeleteThe Droid ad appears to have been just a one-day promotion. It met Google's 28-word limit. As to why Google played along, that's easy to figure out; the Droid is the first phone to run Android 2.0.
Google has to make revenue like any other company and ads are a revenue generator. Ads are here to stay--we pay attention to those that interest us and ignore the rest as clutter. Ads help us become more aware of what is available out there.
ReplyDeleteOn the contrary, just because it becomes the norm does not make it less sleazy. However, we think that the situation has been blown out of proportion. Google is a genius when it comes to making money and maintaining money.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great place for advertisements. Millions of people use Google as their search engine, so the ad would likely reach more people than any other form of advertising. And if Google profits from it, why not?!
